Magazines Part II
Image Based- This is the most common type of magazine cover. This has the picture be the main focus of the cover and this picture should relate to the brand. Usually its of one or two people looking at the camera, and sometimes smiling. The main part of the photograph has to correspond with the style of the publication.
Illustration Based- This is a cover with a drawing either computer made or hand made. These are used to show something funny on the cover page or something out of the ordinary. This is not commonly used sense new technology has been developed.
Type Based- This cover is also not as commonly used today as others. These covers are usually just font on a background without a big picture that takes up all the attention. This cover shows how just words alone can create a powerful image. In order to do this, the words need to be bold and powerful.
Concept Based- This style is a combination of all three magazine types; Image Based, Illustration Based, and Type based. This is also used to provide a strong message. These covers should be clear and easy for the reader to understand. Although they it can be used for different companies, this cover is also rare.
The cover lines and the photo on the cover of the magazine should correspond to each other. They should be simple but also very easy and quick to understand. Also, the cover should be interesting. Something that catches the reader's eye and makes them want to take a look at whats inside.
The relation between words and photos is that they are the two things on the cover that matter. They are important because they create an interest for the audience and can be the determining factor of whether people are interested in what is being advertised and want to know more, or if they couldn't care less about what they are looking at.

My Favorite Cover
This photograph of Floyd Mayweather wasn’t meant to be for the public to see on a magazine cover, however when we saw the defending champ demonstrating his famous shoulder roll, they decided to put the picture on the cover of this ESPN cover. They decided to use a white background to contrast the subject and make him more prominent of the cover. The cover became a huge success in the sports industry, now making this cover one of the most recognizable covers created so far.
This photo was a huge success due to the different element for photography that was used to make the photograph more interesting. The action in the picture, shown from the subtle use of the rule of thirds, allows the viewer to have more of an understanding of what is happening in the picture.The subject's confidence also plays a major role. The black and white in the photo gives the reader a sense of balance.

This photo re inspired the fashion world to take back elegance, instead of having the "girl next door' look being the new fad. The most famous model at the time grouped up with the most famous photographer at the time, and the photographer had the idea to introduce emotion and personality ti create the picture to be art, not just showcase it.

This is a picture that I have always been shown, but I never knew why the picture was taken and the effect of the picture.

The photographer's purpose of the photo was to humanize and to show the reality of what america had become at the time. By taking the picture and showing the world the reality of what was happening, the authorities were informed, they sent 20,000 pounds of food.
